Our Company
Ridgeline Land Solutions is a locally-owned land surveying and planning consultancy based in Oamaru, Waitaki. We provide practical, professional support for subdivision and land development projects across North Otago and the wider region.
How It Began
Our Story
Established in early 2026 by Licensed Cadastral Surveyor David Shearer, Ridgeline was created to offer a more direct, responsive alternative to larger consultancies - combining strong technical expertise with local knowledge and clear, straightforward communication.
David grew up in Oamaru and completed his surveying qualifications at the University of Otago, graduating with a Bachelor of Surveying in 2010 and a Master of Surveying in 2011. His early career included work across New Zealand and Australia, from GNSS monitoring in the Southern Alps and laser scanning projects in the Chatham Islands, to subdivision and construction projects in Far North Queensland, Christchurch, and Blenheim - including work associated with the Canterbury and Kaikōura earthquakes.
He became a Licensed Cadastral Surveyor in 2018, receiving the Maurice Crompton-Smith Award for the best set of licensing projects. Since then, he has worked in senior roles delivering a wide range of land development and subdivision projects, including complex cadastral work.
In 2023, David returned home to Oamaru with his wife Sarah and their two young children. After working locally and seeing the challenges clients can face navigating larger organisations, he recognised the value of a smaller, more accessible consultancy - one that is flexible, approachable, and invested in the local community. Ridgeline Land Solutions grew out of that idea.
Outside of work, David enjoys making the most of the outdoors — whether that’s biking, climbing, tramping, or skiing - and has a long-standing interest in music, getting along to the occasional gig when he can.
